BENGALURU: A 21-year-old BCom student lost her life after her scooter hit a pothole and she was run over by a tipper lorry near Budigere Cross around 8.50 am on Monday. The scooterist died on the spot.
The victim was identified as Dhanushree, a second-year BCom student at a private college. She was heading to college when she lost control after hitting a pothole. The Avalahalli police have registered a hit-and-run case and are searching for the tipper driver. The KR Pura traffic police also visited the spot.
The police are looking into whether Dhanashree was run over by the tipper after she hit a pothole and fell or whether the tipper itself knocked her down. Despite reminders from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar to fix potholes, Bengaluru’s roads remain cratered, posing a threat to citizens.
The Chief Minister had recently set a one-month deadline to repair potholes in the city and make roads motorable. The government has allocated Rs 1,100 crore for road development, with each of the 14 major constituencies receiving Rs 50 crore each, while others will get Rs 25 crore each.
