Stones pelting at a Ganesha procession in Maddur on Sunday evening was captured on a mobile phone.

MANDYA: The investigation into the stone-pelting incident at a Ganesha idol immersion procession in Maddur has revealed that the attack was pre-planned, but a different Ganesha idol was targeted.

The accused had planned to target a specific Ganesh idol, but the stone-pelting occurred at Ram Rahim Nagar a week before the actual target was to be hit, the investigation so far has revealed. The police have arrested 32 people in connection with the incident, and the investigation is ongoing.

It is suspected that Irfan, along with a few others, may have conspired to petl stones at the Ganesha procession in Maddur.

The accused have revealed that they were had planned to target a Ganesha idol installed by one Swami, but the one at Ram Rahim Nagar was targeted a week earlier. The police are investigating whether the incident was motivated by political or religious hatred.

The incident had led to widespread tension in Maddur, with Hindu organizations staging protests and demanding action against the perpetrators. The Opposition BJP had even organised a mass Ganesha idol immersion event in Maddur. The government had assured that those responsible will be brought to justice.
