BAGALKOT: A 17-year-old first-year PU science student, identified as Seema Lamani, who was studying at Vagdevi PU College was found dead under suspicious circumstances at a private paying guest accommodation at Vidyagiri in Bagalkot on Thursday evening. She allegedly hanged herself by tying a towel to a window grill in her hostel room.

Other students and staff at the PG accommodation discovered her body and immediately informed the authorities. Despite efforts to save her, Seema succumbed at the district hospital. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem examination.
The Navanagar police have initiated an investigation, reviewing CCTV footage and are gathering evidence to determine the circumstances surrounding Seema’s death. They are also investigating possible motives and whether Seema faced any pressure or stress. The post-mortem examination is expected provide more insight into the circumstances surrounding Seema’s death, SP Siddharth Goyal said.

Seema’s family members have expressed doubts about her death and are demanding a thorough investigation. “We were informed that she had suffered a seizure. Later, they said she had hanged herself. We have doubts about the reason for her death and we demand a thorough investigation”, the family members said.
Police Superintendent Siddharth Goyal said, “Seema hailed from Sunaga thanda in Bilgi taluk and was staying in a hostel in Vidyanagar. She had gone home three days ago and her uncle dropped her off at the hostel around 12.30 pm on Friday. Between 4 pm 4.30 pm, she tried to end her life by tying one end of a towel to the window grill. On noticing this, the others rushed her to the district hospital, but she did not survive”.
