HASSAN: An Instagram post of a couple sitting in the Maharaja Park here, posted by a woman, has led to a final-year BA student committing suicide by hanging. The deceased is Pavan K, a resident of Kallenahalli village in Mosale Hosalli hobli.
In the Instagram reel, the woman can be heard saying that the couple are indulging in objectionable acts in a children’s play area and questions where society is headed. She also asks viewers to post their comments online to the video.
On Wednesday, Pavan had gone to the park with two female friends after college. In the video posted by @chinnivasi8, he can be seen holding hands with one of the girls. After the girls alerted him about the Instagram post, Pavan, who was worried for the girls, went to a cyber centre at Mosale Hosalli to get the video deleted, but could not as the cyber centre owner was busy.
On Thursday, Pavan’s friends at college brought up the issue of the Instagram post, which further depressed him and left him anxious. He sought help from his friends to get the video deleted, but they could not trace the mobile number of the owner of the Instagram handle.
Upset, Pavan returned home in the afternoon, went to the cowshed and hanged himself. His family members are now demanding strict action against the woman who uploaded the video on Instagram. Pavan, a student of the government first grade college at Mosale Hosalli, had lost his father two years ago and was being raised by his uncle Kumar and mother Puttalakshmi.
