BENGALURU: Over 20 candidates who attempted to secure medical seats through an unscrupulous means have been caught by the authorites. These candidates applied for UGNEET and UGCET seats in 2025 under the physically handicapped quota, despite not initially applying for it.

Instead, they requested physically handicapped reservation through application correction, raising suspicions with the Karnataka Examination Authority.

The 21 candidates, who claimed to have hearing impairments, were sent to Victoria Hospital for medical examination as per the rules. From there, they were referred to NIMHANS for audiograms and disability tests. However, medical tests revealed irregularities and the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) discovered that fake disability certificates were submitted.

The authority has filed a complaint with the Malleshwaram police station, stating that candidates used fake signatures and seals of the medical board chairman to submit false certificates.

Additionally, many candidates obtained UD certificates from Hosapete Government Hospital in Vijayanagar district using UD cards. When asked to produce original documents, further irregularities were uncovered, revealing that certificates from NIMHANS were also fake.
