HASSAN: Angry that his mother-in-law took his wife back to her parental home, a man stabbed her to death while leaving his wife and a few others injured, at Ramanathapura in Arkalgud taluk on Thursday evening. The accused Rasool was caught by locals and handed over to the police.
The victim was identified as Fairoza Ahad (55), while her daughter Sameena and neighbours Fairoza Taj and sister Sumayya Taj also sustained injuries. The Konanur police have arrested the accused and taken up further investigation.
Sameena was married to Rasool, a resident of Bettadapura in KR Nagar taluk nine years ago. Rasool would constantly harass Sameena and she had complained to her parents on several occasions. The families had intervened and resolved the marital issues, but Rasool would continue to harass Sameena after consuming ganja and alcohol.
Fed up of the daily torture, Sameena asked her mother take her back home. On Thursday, Fairoza Ahad went to Bettadapura and brought her Sameena back to Ramanathapura. However, Rasool had followed them on his motorcycle and arrived at the house in the evening.
He barged into the house and started attacking the family members, including his wife Sameena. When her mother Fairoza tried to intervene, he stabbed her in the chest. When Sameena ran out of the house into the neighbour’s house, he chased her, but she locked herself in.
In CCTV footage, Fairoza can be seen collapsing on the road in front of the house following the stabbing. However, Rasool kicked and punched her several times though a neighbour was holding up Fairoza. Hearing the screams, other villagers gathered there and nabbed the accused. He was later handed over to the police.
Police Superintendent Mohammed Sujeetha visited the spot. The injured were treated in a hospital and have been discharged. They have demanded strict punishment to the accused.
