BENGALURU: A convict, identified as Chetan Kalyani, who was undergoing cancer treatment at Kidwai Cancer Hospital in Bengaluru, has escaped from the hospital. The incident occurred on Monday around 1 pm when the prisoner was left unattended by the jail staff.

Chetan was suffering from oral cancer and had been shifted to Parappana Agrahara Central Jail from Vijayapura jail on August 3. Due to his condition, he was admitted to Kidwai Hospital for treatment based on the prison doctor’s advice.

Visuals of the prisoner escaping from the hospital were caught on CCTV cameras. Despite efforts by the hospital staff to catch him, Chetan managed to flee. Now the convict’s escape has raised questions about the negligence of the Parappana Agrahara jail staff.

A case has been registered at the Siddapura police station under BNS 262 based on a complaint filed by Raghu, a staffer of the Parappana Agrahara jail.

Chetan had been an inpatient at Kidwai Hospital since August 21, receiving treatment for his oral cancer, which had made it difficult for him to speak. The police have launched a manhunt for the escaped convict.
