MYSURU: Rajamata Pramoda Devi Wadiyar has responded to Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar’s statement that Chamundi Hills does not belong to Hindus. She clarified that Chamundi Hills belongs to Hindus and Goddess Chamundi is a Hindu deity, being the family deity of the Yadu dynasty.

“The temple follows Hindu rituals and worship. Let politicians say whatever they want, but it won’t change the reality,” she said, countering DK Shivakumar’s statement.

She also mentioned that her family has been fighting a legal battle for the temple and that the formation of the Chamundi Hills Authority is not official until the court’s verdict.

Pramoda Devi Wadiyar expressed her disappointment over the politicisation of the temple and Dasara celebrations, stating that the government’s Dasara is not part of their tradition and that their family’s Dasara celebrations are private.

She advised against further politicisation of Dasara, saying that the politics surrounding it has been enough so far. “Worship is performed in the temple according to Hindu religious rituals. Let politicians say whatever they want. Making claims won’t change the reality “, she said.

“Our family is fighting a case in court regarding the temple. Although the Chamundi Hills Authority has been formed, there is no official confirmation. Everything will become clear after the court’s verdict. This struggle has been going on in court for 70 years”, she noted.

“I am upset that the temple is being used for political purposes. I have no opinion on the Dasara inauguration. Those who invited and those who got invited know about it. The government’s Dasara is not part of our tradition. Our Dasara is conducted privately. The government does Dasara in their own way, and it’s not related to us”, she clarified.

“I will pay attention to Ambari during the Dasara celebrations because I need to focus on other things. One of my family members will attend instead. I think the politics surrounding Dasara has been enough, and it shouldn’t continue further,” said Pramoda Devi.
