BELAGAVI: A man murdered a married woman, with whom he was in a relationship, by stabbing her nine times in the abdomen and later took his own life by stabbing himself five times, at Bidi village in Khanapur taluk on Friday night. The deceased were identified as Anand Sutar (31) and Reshma Tiravira.
Both were residents of the same colony in Bidi village and knew each other since childhood. Reshma got married to Shivu Nandgad 2014 and they have two children while Anand and his wife have three children. Anand and Reshma got into an illicit relationship after their marriage.
A few months ago, Reshma and Anand were caught red-handed by Shivu who had lodged a complaint with the Nandgad police station. The police had warned Anand and had even taken an undertaking from him. After this incident, Reshma started maintaining distance from Anand, but he pestered her to continue their physical relationship.
When Reshma did not comply, Anand got angry and early on Friday morning, he sneaked into Reshma’s house through the rear door and stabbed her nine times in the abdomen right in front of her daughter. When she died on the spot, Anand got scared and stabbed himself five times.
Hearing the screams, family members and neighbours rushed to the spot and informed the police. However, Anand died enroute to a hospital in Belagavi. The last rites of both were conducted separately in the village on Saturday after post-mortem examination.
