BAGALKOT: Two people were crushed to death after a fully loaded multi-axle truck overturned on their car near the Simikeri bypass road in Bagalkot taluk on Saturday. The deceased were identified as Ramesh Hugar (45) of Kesanur village and Akbar Nabisab Chairman of Gaddankeri.
The car was completely flattened in the incident. The police and firemen had to use cranes to lift the overturned lorry. Ramesh was running a tea stall while Akbar was involved in the centring business.
The car was on its way from Simikeri towards Hubballi while the Maharashtra registered truck was on its way to Madhya Pradesh. It is said that the truck driver swerved sharply to avoid hitting a motorcycle when it toppled on the car.
The motorcycle rider was also injured in the incident and has been admitted to the district hospital. The police have registered a case and taken up further investigation.
