BENGALURU: A year-long struggle of a former Devadasi woman to secure a seat for her daughter in a Morarji Desai residential school came to an end after Public TV telecast a report about her plight. The report prompted officials to take immediate action.
Following the broadcast, the Chief Minister’s Special Duty Officer, Dr K Vaishnavi, and the Executive Director of the Department of Social Welfare, Kantharaju, intervened in the matter. They instructed the principal of the Morarji Desai residential school in Hosapete to provide a seat to the former Devadasi’s daughter and necessary arrangements were made promptly.
The officials also appreciated Public TV for bringing this issue to their attention through its news report. The Devadasi woman resides in Vijayanagara district and has three children. Now she is pursuing a first-year BA and working in an NGO.
Kantharaju said, “We have directed the principal of that school to make necessary arrangements for the girl’s admission. This is a state government concern too, and they were instructed to identify a special category. Rules have been framed in February 2024 in such cases. Admission process will be completed done soon”.
