Youth on motorcycle thrown into Krishna river after cab crashes into it on Jurala project barrage

The youth was thrown into the river due to the impact of the collision.

RAICHUR: A motorcycle rider was thrown into the Krishna river and swept away by the strong currents after a car coming from the opposite direction on the Indira Priyadarshini Jurala project barrage, near Dharur in Gadwal district, crashed into the two-wheeler. A search was on for the missing youth.

Mahesh (23) of A Budidapadu in Manavapadu mandal had gone on a motorcycle with a friend to see the Jurala Project. After seeing the barrage, they were returning when they were hit by a car coming from the opposite direction. Footage from CCTV shows the cab veering to the right and crashing into the motorcycle and one person being flung towards the barrage gates.

Mahesh was thrown off the barrage into the river and swept away. His friend, who was riding the motorcycle, was seriously injured and shifted to a hospital in Kurnool hospital. The cab which crashed into the motorcycle is registered in Raichur and it is said that the driver was watching his mobile phone screen, leading to the accident.

The cab has since been seized. The Dharur police have registered a case and are investigating further. Meanwhile, a search is on for the missing youth.
