KARWAR: One person died and five others were seriously injured after a private bus plying between Bengaluru and Mangaluru fell into a stream after crashing into the parapet wall of a bridge near Agasur in Ankola taluk on the National Highway-63 early on Monday.
The bus was carrying 18 passengers and fell into the stream due to overspeeding. Twelve of the passengers sustained minor injuries. The five seriously injured were shifted to a hospitali in Mangaluru while those with minor injuries were treated at the Ankola hospital.
The body of the deceased person was found while lifting the bus from the water, but his identity was not established. The Ankola police visited the spot and arranged for the bus to be lifted out of the water with the help of cranes. A case has been registered in this connection.
