CHITRADURGA: A man committed suicide by consuming poison in front of the Holalkere police station alleging indifference by the police in finding his daughter who had eloped with a youth. The deceased was identified as Ajjaiah (45) of Gilkenahalli.
Ajjaiah had gone to the police station to lodge a missing person’s complaint after his daughter eloped with a youth. He had pleaded with the police to allow him to speak to his daughter, but they were allegedly making him run around for the last one week.
Upset over the indifference of the police, Ajjaiah consumed poison in front of the police station. He was immediately rushed to the district government hospital, but did not respond to treatment.
His relatives have vented their anger at the police and staged a protest in front of the police station on Monday. Tempers flared when the police tried to stop the relatives from staging a protest due to which traffic was affected for some time.
