BELAGAVI: A 19-year-old youth was attacked with a sword by a group of more than 20 people during the Kaudi Peer Muharram at Kasai Galli here on Friday night. The injured was identified as Rehan Aslam Mujawar, a resident of New Gandhi Nagar.
After the Muharram procession, Rehan was standing by the roadside when he was brutally attacked. He sustained injuries on his back and head and was admitted to BIMS hospital.
It is suspected that the attack was the result of old rivalry. Police Commissioner Borase Bhushan Gulabrao, DCP Narayan Bharamani and other senior officials visited the spot. A case has been registered at the Market police station and a search is on for the attackers.
