BIDAR, BENGALURU: Aurad BJP MLA and former minister Prabhu Chavan’s son Prakeek Chavan has been accused of cheating a woman with the promise of marriage. The victim has lodged a complaint with the State Women’s Commission, but Prabhu Chavan claimed that his son is innocent and that it is a conspiracy to finish his political career.
Chavan’s house at Bonti thanda wore a deserted look and villagers said the family may have gone to either Mumbai or Bengaluru. The women’s commission was expected to visit the village and speak to the victim. It has also written to the Bidar police superintendent to review the complaint lodged by the victim’s father at Hokrana police station and to take suitable action.
The victim told the media in Bengaluru after filing the complaint on Thursday that their engagement was held on December 25, 2023, but Prabhu Chavan’s family kept stalling the wedding when they went to finalise the date. Her brother said Prateek alleged that Prateek has misbehaved with other women too. “They are exerting pressure on the local police, so we approached the women’s commission”, he said.
Speaking to Public TV, Chavan claimed, “Our own people are behind this and I know who it is. I will reveal everything at the right time along with evidence. It is true that my son was engaged to the girl and a grand event was held. But about 10 months ago, both families met and decided not to go ahead with the wedding. It is absolutely false that my son misbehaved with the girl”.
“Someone went to the girl’s house and provoked the family against us. If the women’s commission issues a notice, we will reply to it and we will fight the issue legally. We had showed her chats to her parents after which the engagement was cancelled with mutual agreement. This is an attempt to tarnish my reputation as an MLA. Why did they bring this up after one year? Our own party people are behind this”, Chavan added.
Later, he issue a statement to the media and also spoke to press persons saying that a domestic issue could have been resolved amicably, but vested interests are making use of it to create problems, which is unfortunate.
