BENGALURU: The state government is planning to introduce LKG and UKG classes in Anganwadis (childcare centres). A blueprint for starting the classes has been prepared by the Education Department government in collaboration with the Women and Child Development Department.
The classes will be conducted on a “learning with meals” concept, where children will receive midday meals along with education. The government plans to start LKG and UKG classes in anganwadis from October this year.
There are 70,000 anganwadi centers in the state and the government will decide on the number of centres to be covered in the first phase after discussing with the Chief Minister. The kindergartens will be started in centres that have basic facilities and teachers.
The curriculum for LKG and UKG classes in Anganwadis will be the same as that of government schools. The Chilipili 2.0 programme will also be implemented in Anganwadis.
The government is also planning to provide uniforms to children attending LKG and UKG classes, similar to those in government schools. Additionally, the government is considering providing midday meals along with nutritional supplements to the children.
