KARWAR: Two fishermen died while one was rescued after their boat capsized in the Arabian Sea off the Murudeshwar coast on Thursday. The deceased were identified as Madhav Harikanth (45) and Venkatesh Annappa Harikanth (26) while Anand Harikanth survived.

The three had set out to sea on Thursday, but their boat ‘Gilnet’ capsized due to the strong waves. While Madhav’s body was found on Thursday, Venkatesh’s body was found by the seaside near Sanabhavi in Bhatkal taluk on Friday.

Jitendra doused himself in petrol and set himself ablaze at home.

Elsewhere in Uttara Kannada district, a 20-year-old youth committed suicide by dousing himself in petrol and setting himself ablaze near the Amadalli toll plaze in Karwar taluk on Thursday. The deceased Jitendra Jagadish Padti had emerged second highest scorer in the district in the recent Common Entrance Test.

Jitendra locked himself inside his house when everyone else was busy with work and set himself on fire. When the family members notices smoke coming from the house, they broke open the door and rushed Jitendra to a hospital, but he did not survive. A case has been registered at the Karwar Rural police station.
