BENGALURU: A woman, identified as Savitha, has been arrested for allegedly cheating over 20 women of more than Rs 30 crore by befriending them at kitty parties. The accused would introduce herself to wealthy women at these parties, gain their trust and then cheat them by giving various reasons.
Savitha, who was arrested by the Basaveshwaranagar police, would allegedly ask about the women’s background and then offer them food and drinks to gain their trust. She would claim to know influential politicians, including CM Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM D K Shivakumar, and Industries Minister M B Patil to deceive the women.
Savitha would then ask the women to invest money, promising to double their investment, or to buy gold at a low price from America. She would also claim to have relatives abroad who would invest their money. However, she would later avoid returning the money, citing various excuses.
The women who were cheated had given her amounts ranging from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 2.5 crore. This is not the first time Savitha has been involved in such cases. A case was registered against her at the Govindarajanagar police station earlier. She was arrested, released on bail, and continued her activities. The police are investigating further.
