MANDYA: A 19-year-old girl, who attempted suicide by jumping into the Cauvery river near Hangarahalli in Srirangapatna taluk, spent the entire night on Thursday in the water as she got stuck to a tree submerged in the water. She was finally rescued by the Fire and Emergency Services and police personnel on Friday morning.
Pavithra, a law student and resident of Electronics City in Bengaluru, left home after an argument with her family members and jumped into the Cauvery river near Hangarahalli around 7 pm on Thursday. She floated for about 5 km before she got caught in a tree in the middle of the river near Mahadevapura.
Pavithra then gave up her plan to end her life and stayed on the tree till morning. Around 7 am on Friday, she screamed for help and some locals who heard her informed the police. The police and firefighters finally rescued her and admitted her to the Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences. A acse has been registered at the Arakere police station.
