BENGALURU: A BMTC electric bus driver got into an altercation with depot staff and police after being questioned about his intoxication while on duty at Shantinagar bus depot.

The driver, who was working on a contract basis for a year-and-a-half, had reported to work drunk despite having a day off. When confronted by the depot staff, he became aggressive and challenged them to a fight; he even took off his uniform.

The situation escalated when police were called to the place, and the driver became violent, attacking a police officer after he resorted to baton charge and engaged in a scuffle. The driver eventually threw his uniform at the police.

Following the incident, BMTC instructed the contracting agency to terminate the driver’s services, which was promptly done. The driver was dismissed from his position.
