MANGALURU: A leader of the Hindu Jagaran Vedike was arrested by the Mudabidre police in connection with a stone-pelting incident at a private bus which was involved in an accident on Novermber 14 last year. The arrested is Samit Raj, a resident of Mudabidre Dharegudde and Dakshina Kannada district convener of the Hindu Jagaran Vedike.
On November 14 last year, a private bus had knocked down a woman pedestrian while overtaking another vehicle, leaving her seriously injured. Some students, who were present at the spot, pelted stones at the bus, damaging its windshield and windows.
The bus owner Rafiq, in his complaint with the Mudabidre police, had alleged that Samit Raj was also involved in the stone-pelting incident. It is also alleged that Samit Raj had threatened Rafiq to give Rs 5 lakh to the injured woman’s family.
Six months after the incident, the Mudabidre police arrested Samit Raj and produced him before a court which remanded him to 14 days in judicial custody.
