BENGALURU: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has warned hotels and malls against displaying real food items for display purposes or to attract customers. The Bengaluru Hotel Association’s has written to all hotels and malls to follow the FSSAI’s new rule.
Instead, they have been advised to use photographs for display. This decision follows concerns that displaying real food items can lead to wastage and make them unfit for consumption, ultimately affecting the environment.
In a separate move, the Food Safety Department has been actively inspecting hotels and imposing fines for non-compliance with food safety and hygiene standards.
In Bengaluru, a total of Rs 23.45 lakh has been collected in fines from 105 cases across different zones. Statewide, 304 cases have been registered, resulting in fines of Rs 30.35 lakh. Hotels found lacking in cleanliness and serving substandard food have been issued notices and fined.
