Major landslides in parts of Sakleshpur, Koppa; Traffic affected on NH-75

The landslide had blocked traffic on Shiradi Ghat for several hours.

HASSAN, CHIKKAMAGALUR: Major landslides were witnessed in Sakleshpur taluk of Hassan district and Koppa taluk of Chikkamagaluru district, affecting traffic and normal life while posing a threat to some properties.

A major landslide occurred on National Highway-75 on the Shiradi Ghat near Maranahalli in Sakleshpur taluk, leading to a massive traffic jam and closure of the road. Vehicles heading towards Mangaluru from Bengaluru were diverted towards Charmadi Ghat while those travelling from Mangaluru towards Bengaluru were diverted via Harle.

Several vehicles were stuck on the road as the landslide also brought down a huge tree which had blocked the road. Efforts were on to clear the highway for traffic. Heavy rain has been lashing the Sakleshpur taluk since Wednesday evening.

Another landslide near Kadagaravalli also brought down treees, cutting off link along the Kadagavalli-Changadihalla-Kagenari road, inconveniencing locals.

In Koppa taluk, a major landslide occurred at Huttinagadde village, posing a threat to the house of one Sachin. Any more falling earth could bury the house.

The occupants of the house vented their anger at local officials, who had not bothered to visit the spot. The incessant rain, accompanied by strong winds, have thrown normal life out of gear.
