Two accused in Shiggaon contractor murder case shot at near Hanagal

HAVERI: The Hanagal police shot at two of the accused in the murder of contractor Shivanand Kunnur in Shiggaon when the duo attacked policemen when they were being brought to the police station after their arrest.

The police nabbed Ashraf and Nagaraj Savadatti and were bringing them to the police station when the duo attacked the police team near Kondoji Cross. Circle Inspector Satyappa B Malagond, Hanagal police sub-inspector Sampat Anikini and constables Ravi and Harish Karjagi sustained injuries.

In self-defence, the police team fired at the accused when they tried to flee. The injured accused first treated at the Haveri district hospital and later shifted to KIMS Hospital in Hubballi.

Shivanand Kunnur was brutally hacked to death by a group of five youths in Shiggaon.

Police Superintendent Anshu Kumar said the other accused, Sudeep, Suresh Gowli and Hanumantha, too have been arrested. “Contractor Shivanand Kunnur was murdered on Tuesday afternoon and we had formed four teams to nab the accused. All the five were arrested near Kondoji Cross. When they tried to attack the police and escape, CPI Satyappa and PSI Sampath opened fire at them. The injured accused have been shifted to Hubballi for further treatment”.
