DHARWAD: A man was allegedly thrashed badly by the Uttara Kannada police after a bar fight at Haliyal on Sunday. With serious injuries, he has been admitted to a private hospital in Dharwad.
The victim Clarence Pinto had allegedly got into an argument with some of his friends at a bar on Sunday and had sustained injuries from glass bottle shards. He was brought home by his family members and his wounds were dressed.
However, the police allegedly came to Pinto’s house, picked him up and thrashed him badly, leaving him with wounds on the legs, hands and other parts of the body. His family alleged that he was then taken to a government hospital where he was treated for the injuries. They also said he was abused by the policemen.
His wife Victoria Pinto said, “My husband had got into an argument with his friends after consuming alcohol and was bleeding. We brought him home. But the police took him to a government hospital, thrashed him and again took him to the hospital. Will they be held responsible if there is loss of life?”
