BENGALURU: Six days after HR professional Akshay (29) died after a tree branch fell on his head while riding a two-wheeler near Brahmachaitanya Temple in Basavanagudi, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is yet to clear the pruned branches from the footpath.
The branches were pruned on Monday, but the BBMP staff have not cleared it as it was the same spot where Akshay had died and some blood stains remain. Akshay had been struck by a falling tree branch last Sunday. Local residents had shifted the pruned branches which were lying on the road to the footpath.
Balaji, a local resident, told Public TV, “They have pruned the tree only where the accident occurred, but not the other branches which pose a danger and we don’t know why. They are also not clearing the pruned branches because there are blood stains. There’s about two truckloads of timber lying here and who will be responsible if some untoward incident occurs? The officials are not even answering phone calls.
“The BBMP staff had just abandoned the pruned branches on the roads and we shifted them to the roadside. Even now, small branches are falling from trees and there are schoolchildren walking on the road”, he said.

Akshay was admitted to the hospital on June 15 and underwent surgery, but despite the medical efforts, he had not shown any response even 60 hours after the procedure. Normally, doctors consider a patient brain dead if there is no brain activity 48 hours after surgery. In Akshay’s case, the prolonged lack of brain response has led doctors to conclude that he is brain dead.
A tree branch had fallen on Akshay, causing him to lose control of his two-wheeler, which then collided with a parked car. Akshay’s friend, Prashant, was also injured and fell to the ground.
