BENGALURU: Twenty-nine-year-old Akshay, who suffered severe head injuries after a tree branch fell on him while he was riding a two-wheeler near Brahmachaitanya Temple in Basavanagudi, and had slipped into deep coma was declared brain dead by doctors treating him at a hospital in the city Wednesday.
Akshay was admitted to the hospital on June 15 and underwent surgery, but despite the medical efforts, he has not shown any response even 60 hours after the procedure.
Normally, doctors consider a patient brain dead if there is no brain activity 48 hours after surgery. In Akshay’s case, the prolonged lack of brain response has led doctors to conclude that he is brain dead.
The doctors have informed Akshay’s family about his condition, and the situation is being closely monitored. His family is worried, especially since his father is undergoing dialysis, and Akshay was the primary breadwinner.
A tree branch had fallen on Akshay, causing him to lose control of the vehicle, which then collided with a parked car. Akshay’s friend, Prashant, was also injured and fell to the ground. Locals rushed had them to a hospital.
Akshay, an HR professional working in Rajajinagar, suffered severe head injuries, including bleeding from his nose, mouth, and ears. His brother, Benaka Raj, has requested BBMP’s assistance, stating that the family is struggling to cope with the situation. The family had been relying on Akshay for support. The doctors had earlier informed the family that the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) had assured the family that they will clear the hospital bills.
