HAVERI: The Bankapura police have arrested four people in connection with the sexual assault on a minor and booked them under the POCSO Act. The accused were presented before a court and remanded to judicial custody.
The arrested are Goni Rudra Shiggatti (24), Manjunath Shiggatti (23), Lakshman Kabanur and Maruthi Shiggatti. The arrested include the alleged culprits and those who tried to strike a compromise with the victim’s family.
According to the victim’s mother, who lodged a complaint, her second daughter, who lives separately with the father, was in a relationship with one of the arrested youths and was found to be pregnant. She was given an emergency contraceptive pill by the father.
However, two others blackmailed the girl claiming that they have videos and would leak them, and also publicise her pregnancy, and sexually assaulted her on separate occasions. The Bankapura police have registered a case and taken up further investigation.
