KOPPAL: A woman farmer from Yarehanchinala village in Yelburga taluk got all the brambles and thorny shrubs which had grown by the side of the road cleared with the money she had saved from the Gruha Lakshmi dole given by the state government.

Savitha Nagareddy hired an excavator to clear the road from Yarehanchinala to Kotamachagi and make it more easy for others to travel, and drawing praise from the villagers. Several appeals to the authorities had failed to evoke any response.

Savitha said, “The number of accidents were increasing on this road and it had become difficult to bring our harvest home. Hence, I got the road cleared. I had heard about other women using the Gruha Lakshmi funds to drill borewells or buy cattle, and I thought I will get the road cleared”.
