CHAMARAJANAGAR: A government higher primary school at Mariyala in the taluk has recorded nil admissions for the fresh academic year, allegedly as classes are not conducted properly due to a tussle among teachers.
The school with seven classrooms, has two teachers and two midday meal staff to cook food. However, even after four days since schools reopened after the summer break, not a single student has enrolled in the school and are instead opting for private schools.
Parents allege that the government school is in a pitiable state with no cleanliness and no drinking water facilities. Last year, 26 students had enrolled in the school. Due to the tussle among teachers, the school headmistress Susheela had to seek police protection, they pointed out.
“Those who can afford are putting their children in private schools. But what will the poorer people do? The teachers should be transferred out and the education department should take steps to provide better facilities here”, said Lingappa, a resident of Mariyala.
“Six students of seventh standard have passed out and two were not attending class. Today, two others came to apply for transfer certificates. I was assaulted in January over some issue related to documents and after that, I have not stepped inside the village”, said Susheela, the headmistress.
