KALABURAGI: A sub-contractor was allegedly duped of over Rs 1 crore by a man who claimed to be the son-in-law of a Mumbai-Karnataka minister by promising him a Rs 20 crore contract from the Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board (KKRDB).
In his complaint to the CEN police, the sub-contractor Sharanappa said that one Sridhar introduced himself as the son-in-law of a Mumbai-Karnataka minister. Sridhar and his associates promised him contracts worth Rs 20 crore from the KKRDB and another Rs 5 crore tender to supply calendars to government officers. Sharanappa claimed that Sridhar and his associates took Rs 1.19 crore from him.
Kalaburagi SP Dr Sharanappa said. “The contractor payed the money in stages towards tender expenses. When he was not allotted the tender, he sought return of the money, they promised other tenders and issued a cheque. The fraud came to light when the cheque bounced”.
The police are now on the lookout for Sridhar, Lakshmikanth, Santosh and Kiran. A case has been registered and further investigation is under way.
