The last rites of the seer were conducted on the math premises on Tuesday.

CHAMARAJANAGAR: The senior seer of the Salur Math at Male Mahadeshwara Hills, Sri Guru Swami, has died at the age of 70 due to age-related illnesses.

A large number of devotees gathered at the math on Tuesday and the mortal remains were taken out in a procession following which the last rites were conducted at the math premises.

Sri Guru Swami, the 17th seer of the math, was known for his work in educating children who were living on the fringes of forests by bringing them to the math. He had collected alms from nearby villages and had arranged for free education and food for the children. He had also started a school for girl children at Ponnachi.
