The BMRCL board has given approval to the project.

BENGALURU: Even as Namma Metro is expanding its network in the city, traffic congestion continues unabated. In view of the increasing traffic, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) board has approved double decker flyover running 40 km.

The move comes on the back of the state government’s decision to have double decker flyover to ease traffic movement. While Namma Metro has seen increasing patronage, the number of vehicles in the city has also increased.

The BMRCL board has approved 40.65 km of double decker corridors under the 3rd phase project. It will include elevated stretches and Metro viaducts and BMRCL will approach the state government for an additional Rs 8,916 crore grants. The Metro phase 3 project will run 32.15 km from JP Nagar Phase IV to Kempapura and 12.5 km from Hosahalli to Kadabagere.

The entire stretch of the two lines will have double decker flyovers and the state government has promised necessary funds. After the designs are approved, work on the project is likely to start in the next two months after the state cabinet approves the proposal in the coming two weeks, sources said.
