BENGALURU: The state government is considering reducing the passing marks for SSLC and PUC students from 35 to 33, following the pattern of other states and central boards.

This move aims to make it easier for students to pass and bring the state in line with other regions. The proposal is being discussed at the government level and may be implemented in the upcoming 2025-26 academic year.

The Education Department is preparing to draft a law to effect this change. Currently, the higher passing marks in Karnataka are seen as a challenge for students, whereas other states with lower passing marks have seen more students passing.

It is expected that a law will be promulgated in this regard soon and the Education Department officials are already preparing for it.

The Karnataka government is considering reducing the passing marks for SSLC and PUC students from 35 to 33, aligning with other state boards and central boards like CBSE, ICSE and Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV). Currently, the passing marks in Karnataka are 35, which is higher compared to other states like Tamil Nadu and Kerala, where the passing marks are 33.

This disparity is seen as a disadvantage for Karnataka students. The Education Department is preparing to amend the law to reduce the passing marks to 33, aiming to ease the examination process for students in the state.
