BIDAR: The police shot at a dacoit after he attacked a police head constable with a dagger when they had gone to arrest him in the Honnikeri forest early on Friday morning. The accused Kartar Singh was later admitted to BRIMS Hospital.
Kartar Singh was wanted in a dacoity case where a gang of five had stolen valuables worth over Rs 25 lakh from a house in New Adarsh Colony after threatening a woman, Jyothi, by pointing a pistol at her head on April 26.
On receiving information that a gang of dacoits was holed up in the Honnikeri forest, a police team led by circle inspector Gurupad S Biradar raided the location. In his bid to escape, Kartar Singh attacked head constable Maqsood with a dagger when inspector Biradar shot Singh in the leg, Police Superintendent Pradeep Gunti said.
The SP also visited the BRIMS hospital and inquired about the health of the injured head constable. The police are on the lookout for the others involved in the dacoity case, the SP said. Further investigation is under way.
