BENGALURU: A pillion rider died on the spot while the two-wheeler rider escaped after a milk tanker knocked down their vehicle in front of the Indian Institute of Science on Thursday morning.
The victim has been identified as Harsha, who was riding pillion, while the rider Sachin sustained injuries. The two, who were residents of Srirampura, were heading to work at a jewellery shop on New BEL Road when the accident occurred.
It was suspected that the tanker (KA 53 X 5082 ) driver was driving under the influence of alcohol. The tanker was heading from Bengaluru Dairy to Nelamangala. The Sadashivanagar traffic police inspected the incident site.
Harsha died on the spot, and his body was sent to Ramaiah Hospital for post-mortem while Sachin was admitted to a private hospital and is undergoing treatment.
An acquaintance said that Harsha had written the SSLC examination recently and was waiting for the results. “One of his friends called him for distributing pamphlets and had offered pay Rs 1,000 for that task. Harsha went on his He usually takes the bus to travel, but on Thursday, he went with a friend on a two-wheeler”.
He also alleged that the tanker driver was drunk and ran over pillion rider.
