CHAMARAJANAGAR: A youth attempted suicide by consuming alcohol mixed with pesticide at Kollegal, allegedly over constant harassment by a woman police sub-inspector. He was immediately rushed to a hospital in Kollegal and later shifted to the Chamarajanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) where he is being treated in the ICU.
According to Dushyant’s family, he was being summoned repeatedly to the police station by sub-inspector Varsha and detained for house. The police officer also allegedly threatened Dushyant of opening a history sheet aganist him and killing him in an encounter.
Dushyant’s mother Radhika said that the woman SI visited their house on Monday an abused her in foul language. Earlier, Dushyant had got into a brawl in a bar and the officer has been using CCTV footage from the incident to harass him, she claimed. “Distressed by the constant harassment, my son attempted suicide”, she said.
The parents have complained to senior officers against SI Varsha. “The officer even threatened to haul me over to the police station”, Radhika said. “If anything happens to our son, PSI Varsha and police staffer Veerendra will be directly responsible. They have not even issued notice to us”, said Dushyant’s father.
12-year-old boy commits suicide
A 12-year-old boy committed suicide by hanging after a child got injured while playing. The incident occurred at Lokkanahalli village in Hanur taluk and the deceased is Prajwal, the son of the gram panchayat bill collector Sheela.
Prajwal was playing with Abhishek, a relative’s child, when the latter sustained injuries in the leg. The parents shifted Abhishek to a hospital, but Prajwal panicked and committed suicide by hanging.
Neighbours shifted the boy to the primary health centre in the village from where the doctors referred him to the Holy Cross hospital in Kamagere where the doctors declared him dead. Prajwal’s uncle Rangaswamy has lodged a complaint with the Hanur police who have registered a case and taken up further investigation.
