HASSAN: The rays of the Sun fell directly on the idol of Lord Chennakeshava at the historical Belur Chennakeshava temple early on Tuesday. The phenomenon occurred after a gap of four years.
In the past four years, the annual phenomenon could not be observed due to weather factors like rain and clouds. This time, the weather was clear and the phenomenon was observed between 6.15 am and 6.35 am.
According to the temple priest Srinivas Bhat and researcher Srivatsa, the Sun’s rays first fall on the floor of the temple, rising up to the navel of the idol and then recedes. After this, the sanctum sanctorum was closed. It was reopened after the priests washed the feet of the idol with milk.
