Tiger kills cow in Virajpet village, Forest dept launches search

The tiger killed the cow in broad daylight inside a coffee estate.

MADIKERI: A tiger killed a cow which was grazing in a coffee estate in the daytime at Chennaiahna Kote village in Virajpet taluk on Friday. The cow belonged to one Ponnappa of the same village. Following the incident, labourers are hesitant to go to estates for work.

Following the incident, Forest Department officials visited the spot and launched a search for the tiger on Saturday morning. The search started from Birunani village in Ponnampet taluk with the help of tamed elephants Srirama and Gopi brought from the Dubare elephant camp.

A search operation was launched on Saturday.

The tiger has been attacking cattle at villages on the fringes of forest and the Forest Department plans to capture it before it attacks humans. The staff are following pug marks and have cautioned villagers of Birunai, Srimangala, T Shettigeri and others to be careful while venturing out.
