Top portion of chariot collapses during car festival in Mulki, no casualties

MANGALURU: The top portion of a chariot, being taken out in procession during the Bappanadu Sri Durgaparameshwari temple car festival at Mulki in Dakshina Kannada district suddenly collapsed in the wee hours of Saturday. Luckily, there was no loss of life.

The chariot was moving along a road when the top portion started swaying and suddenly collapsed on the ground. The priests were riding on the chariot, but luckily, no one was injured. Those who were standing near the chariot too had a providential escape.

The incident occurred around 1.45 am on Saturday and a few people sustained minor injuries. After the accident, the deity was taken out in procession in the Chandramandala chariot.
