BIDAR: On the day a five-year-old girl was allegedly assaulted and murdered, a youth was mistaken for a kidnapper after he entered a house at Vidyanagar Colony here on Sunday where two girls and a boy were playing in the front yard. He fled on seeing the parents of the girls coming out of the house. It later turned out that he was only looking for an address.
The youth had entered the compound of Satish Bakkachowdekar on 11 Cross in Vidyanagar Colony and was talking to the children who were playing in the front yard. He had parked his bike in front of the house and entered the compound where the children playing in the front yard.
The youth then entered the gate and attempted to talk to the girls, but fled on his motorcycle as the parents came out of the house after one of the children informed them. The incident was captured on CCTV camera.
Police Superintendent Pradeep Gunti said the youth was identified as Mallikarjun, a resident of Sirsi village in Aurad taluk. “He had come to Vidyanagar to distribute invitation cards for his younger cousin sister’s wedding, but got confused about an address and asked the girls. The children informed their parents who came out rushing and yelling. Scared by this, he fled”.
The SP said they had questioned Mallikarjun who said he was distributing wedding invitation cards which is scheduled for April 23. “Our investigation has revealed that there was no kidnap attempt or misbehaviour with the children. We are investigating further. Both the family and the youth are cooperating with the probe”, he added.
