BENGALURU: The city is staring at a problem with garbage disposal as residents of Kannur Mittaganahalli are opposing dumping of waste in the dump yard near the village. Garbage had remained uncleared across the city since the last three days as the villagers had blocked the garbage compactor trucks.

Tipper autos filled with garbage had lined up on Dhanvantri Road in Majestic area and near KR Markets as the garbage trucks were not allowed to dump waste. The residents of Mittaganahalli claim that waste is being unscientifically dumped, causing problems for them.

The gram panchayat has written to Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh highlighting that unsegregated waste is being dumped. They also pointed out that a dead body was found in the dump and questioned how they can live in such an environment.

On Thursday night, the villagers relented and allowed the garbage trucks to dispose of the waste in the quarries. The trucks had been held up for the whole day. Garbage clearance is expected to resume in Bengaluru from Friday night, provided the villagers allow dumping of waste.
