BENGALURU: Rattled by the success of southern states in all fronts the BJP-led central government is now preparing to wage war against the south using the weapon of delimitation. However, the Congress government in Karnataka will not allow any injustice to happen to the southern states, declared Dr Sharan Prakash Patil, minister for medical education, skill development, livelihood, entrepreneurship and Raichur district in-charge.

Speaking to reporters at Vidhana Soudha, Sharan Prakash Patil lashed out at the centre stating that the proposed delimitation plan is an attempt to keep the southern states under control and impose unfair policies upon them.

“Reports suggest that the delimitation exercise will be based on population. This is unfair to the southern states as Karnataka and other south Indian states have implemented effective population control measures for decades, unlike the northern states, which have failed to do so”, he asserted.

“The BJP government at the Centre has already deceived the southern states in tax distribution. Now, under the guise of delimitation it is once again readying itself to wage war on the south”, Dr Patil criticized. “The BJP has failed to gain significant support in south India and cannot tolerate the region’s progress. Therefore, it is attempting to reduce the number of representatives from the south in Parliament”, he opined.

“Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has already given a fitting reply to Union minister Amit Shah’s proposal. Similarly, Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin and Kerala chief minister P Vijayan have also expressed their dissatisfaction with the population-based delimitation proposal and have strongly countered the BJP at the centre”, Dr Patil stated.

“If delimitation is carried out based on population, Karnataka’s Lok Sabha seats could be reduced from 28 to 26. The people of Karnataka will not tolerate this injustice”, he warned.

“We Kannadigas will not accept this injustice. As our chief minister has emphasized, the southern states must stand united and resist the BJP’s moves. Delimitation should be carried out proportionally and fairly. BJP and JD(S) MPs from Karnataka must show courage and raise their voices”, Patil demanded.
