417 consumers fined for using drinking water for other purposes

BENGALURU: The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has cracked down on consumers misusing drinking water for other purposes. The board had issued a warning stating that those who misuse drinking water would be fined.

Despite the warning, 417 people in Bengaluru were found misusing drinking water, and they have been fined a total of Rs 20.85 lakh. The highest number of cases was reported in East Bengaluru, with 105 cases and fines of Rs 4.25 lakh were collected.

East Bengaluru recorded 105 cases and fines of Rs 4.25 lakh were collected from consumers while in West Bengaluru, there were 111 cases and fines Rs 5.55 lakh were collected. North Bengaluru had 84 cases and was they were fined Rs 3.20 lakh while South Bengaluru recorded 115 cases and were fined Rs 5.70 lakh.

BWSSB Chairman Ramprasad Manohar stated that the board would continue to take action against those misusing drinking water.
