BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner has taken up projects worth thousands of crores to address infrastructure issues in the city. This despite Deputy CM D K Shivakumar stating that Bengaluru’s traffic problems can’t be solved even by God.
Bengaluru’s traffic problem is increasing day by day. The city’s development minister and deputy chief minister have stated that the traffic issue cannot be resolved in the next three years.
This statement has received a lot of criticism. Following this, the BBMP has decided to spend Rs 10,000 crore this year to address the traffic issue. They have planned several projects to ensure that the city’s roads do not become a problem for the next 25 years. These projects include the construction of an 80-90 km elevated corridor and the white-topping of all major and minor roads in Bengaluru.
Additionally, they plan to initiate work on one or two flyovers this year and also start work on tunnels.
BBMP chief commissioner Tushar Girinat said, “Now we don’t have any long-sighted vision about the city’s infrastructure. We are preparing a huge master plan. The plan includes the city’s development for future years, about roads, tunnels, footpaths, and parks according to town planning. So now we do not have such a plan. If we prepared it in advance with DPR, it would be easy to execute one after another.”.
