CHIKKABALLAPUR: The deputy commissioner of Chikkaballapur, PN Ravindra, has confirmed the detection of bird flu at Varadahalli village. The virus has spread from chickens brought from the market. Tests conducted at the Bhopal laboratory have confirmed the outbreak of bird flu.
Following this, an emergency meeting was called by the deputy commissioner, who said that bird flu has been detected in Varadahalli village. A blockade has been imposed in a 1-km radius around the village and a complete ban on transportation of chickens from Varadahalli village from Thursday itself.
Varadahalli village has 96 houses with a population of 405. A survey of chickens has already been conducted, and a survey of people and chickens within a 1-kilometer radius of the infected village will be conducted. Bleaching powder will be sprinkled on the roads to eliminate the virus and vehicles will be disinfected with a sodium hypochlorite solution.
A decision has been taken to cull the remaining chickens in the village on Friday. The DC has appealed to the villagers to hand over their chickens which will be culled in a designated area and buried to prevent the spread of the virus.
