BENGALURU: The National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced new rules for FASTag payments, which have come into effect today.
The new rules aim to prevent misuse of FASTag, such as not maintaining sufficient balance, not recharging on time, and not updating KYC (Know Your Customer) details.
If you driving on a national highway with toll plazas, check if your FASTag is active at least an hour before your journey. If your FASTag isn’t working, you might have to pay double the toll as penalty.
New rules:
1. Ensure your FASTag is active 60 minutes before crossing the toll and for at least 10 minutes after crossing.
2. If your FASTag has a low balance or technical issues, you have 70 minutes to recharge.
3. If there is a delay in the deduction of money at the toll-gate, the toll operator is responsible.
If your FASTag isn’t active 60 minutes before and 10 minutes after crossing the toll, the FASTag transaction will be rejected. If it is inactive, the toll system will show ‘Error Code 176’ and add you to the blacklist. If you enter with a blacklisted FASTag, you’ll have to pay double the toll.
FASTags can be blacklisted for:
– Insufficient balance.
– Non-payment of toll tax.
– Payment failures.
– Not updating Know Your Customer (KYC) details correctly.
– Difference in vehicle chassis number or registration number.
What happens if you enter without enough money?
– If you enter without enough money, you’ll get an SMS to add money within 10 minutes.
– If you add money within 10 minutes, there’s no extra charge.
– If not, you’ll pay double the toll.
Vehicle owners can file a complaint with the banks after a cooling period of 15 days regarding excess money deduction or wrong toll.
Negative balance:
– If you have a negative balance, the toll will be deducted from your security deposit.
Complaints:
– You can complain to the bank within 15 days about extra charges or wrong payments.
