BENGALURU: An 83-year-old woman from Malleswaram in Bengaluru was threatened with digital arrest by fraudsters who posed a police officer.

On October 10, she received a call from someone claiming to be from the Mumbai police, stating that a money laundering case had been filed against her and that she had another phone number linked to the crime.

The scammers obtained her bank account information and threatened her, forcing the elderly woman to deposit Rs1.24 crore into the accounts specified by the scammers in four installments.

When the scammers tried to contact her again, she grew suspicious and reported the incident to the cyber police two months later. A case has been registered at the cyber police station.
