80,000 ration cards being reviewed in Bengaluru to weed out ineligible beneficiaries

BENGALURU: The Food and Civil Supplies Department is scrutinising ineligible ration‑card holders in Bengaluru city and about 80,000 ration cards are being reviewed. Only those ineligible cardholders who submit the required documents will remain in the BPL (Below Poverty Line) category. If they do not submit the required documents, their cards will be shifted to APL (Above Poverty Line).

If beneficiaries fail to provide information about their status, that will be moved to APL in the four taluks of the Bengaluru city district.The central government has sent a list of ineligible cards in Bengaluru city district to the state Food Department and the revision process is now ongoing.

In Bengaluru Urban district, nearly 80,000 cards are being revised. The lists has been posted on the notice boards of fair‑price shops and ration card holders whose names appear in the ineligible list must submit appropriate documents to prove their eligibility. If they submit the required documents, their cards will not be shifted to APL category.

Similarly, 35,000 cards in Bengaluru North taluk, 21,000 cards in Bengaluru South taluk, 10,000 cards in Bengaluru East taluk, and a total of 80,000 cards in Yelahanka taluk have been marked ineligible. Notices have already been issued to the ineligible cardholders to submit the necessary documents. It can help them avoid being classified as ineligible; those who are taxpayers or have more land are being marked ineligible.

Already, rice is not being supplied to 80,000 cards by the central government. The revision of ineligible cards will be completed within the next month, and only then will a clear picture emerge o, how many cards will be shifted to APL category.
